Scope and Contents

The collection contains written material and a small amount of illustrative material for ten children's books by John Warren Stewig, plus some miscellaneous material. Written material includes typescripts, some corrected, photocopied or fax, correspondence, notes, clippings, corrected page proofs, dummies, research material, photocopies of illustrations, front matter, corrected galley proofs, jackets, an invoice, a legal agreement, jacket proofs, photographs, a receipt, and a holograph. Illustrative material includes a photocopied, corrected dummy, prints, and a jacket flap layout proof.

Biographical / Historical

John Warren Stewig was born January 7, 1937, in Waukesha, WI. He became an educator, specializing in elementary education, and eventually began writing books for children. In 1977 he was chosen to chair the Caldecott Medal committee.
