Scope and Contents

The collection contains written and illustrative production materials, including typescripts, sketches, two final watercolor illustrations, and correspondence for the picture book Bright Beetle, written and illustrated by Chrustowski. The collection also contains one mixed-media collage created for the picture book Higgledy-Piggledy Chicks, writted by Barbara Joosse, and several miscellaneous sketches created during a Kerlan professional day, as well as an illustration of crocuses.

Biographical / Historical

Rick Chrustowski grew up in Valparaiso, Indiana, and earned his BA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1992. He developed an interest in art at an early age, which, combined with his love of the outdoors, has led to his career as an illustrator of children’s books, primarily centered on nature. He currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
