Biographical / Historical
Sharon Creech was born on July 29, 1945 in South Euclid, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. Her large family, consisting of one sister and three brothers, provided influence for books on large families such as Absolutely Normal Chaos.Creech worked as a literature teacherin Switzerland and England. Her first novel, Absolutely Normal Chaos, was published in the U.K. in 1990, followed by her first novel published in the U.S. in 1994, Walk Two Moons.Her works have received many awards, including a Newberry Medal for Walk Two Moonsin 1995. Creech holds the honor of being the first American winner of the Carnegie Medal for British children's books as therefore became the first person to win both the British Carnegie and the American Newbery Medal.
