Biographical / Historical
Willam Sleator was born William Warner Sleator III on February 13, 1945 in Maryland. His books, written primarily for young readers, often dealt with science fiction, frequently intertwining family relationships into the often suspenseful plot. Sleator graduated from Harvard University in 1967 with a degree in English and eventually published his first children's story, The Angry Moon, in 1970. His novel Blackbriarsoon followed in 1972. Originally interested in music, Sleator worked as a rehersal pianist for the Boston Ballet, starting in 1974; it wasn't until 1983 that Sleator left to focus on writing full-time. Sleator split his time between Boston, Massachusetts, and a rural village in Thailand where he lived with his partner, Siang Chitsa-Ard. He passed away in Bua Chet, Thailand on August 3, 2011.
