Scope and Contents
This collection contains materials related to two children's books illustrated by Lane Smith, including a dummy for The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, as well as a rough marker sketch and an original oil painting inspired by The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales (both of which were created by Smith after the book's publication).

Biographical / Historical
Lane Smith was born on August 25, 1959 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and grew up in Corona, California. He graduated with a B.F.A. in Illustration from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
Lane Smith and Jon Scieczka have teamed together to write and illustrate a number of children's books. The publication The True Story of the Three Little Pigswon the 1989 New York Times Book Review Best Books of the Year mention, the 1989 American Library Association's Notable Children's Book citation, and the Maryland Black-Eyed Susan Picture Book Award. The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, published in 1992, was a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, an American Library Association Notable Children's Book, and a Rhode Island Children's Book Award.
