Scope and Contents
This collection consists of production and marketing materials pertaining to books and articles by the children’s author Jon Scieszka. The materials include typescripts, correspondence, manuscripts, notes, research, marketing materials, folded and gathereds, clippings, dummies, videotaped interviews, shirts, caps, stuffed characters, and bags. The collection also includes production material for two television series that Scieszka helped create. There are also items that relate to Scieszka’s role as the first National Ambassador for Young People's Literature in the US, including a cape.

Biographical / Historical
Jon Scieszka was born on September 8, 1954 in Flint, Michigan. He received a B.A. in English and pre-med from Albion College in Michigan and an M.F.A. from Columbia University in fiction writing. Along with writing children's books, Scieszka is a founder of the web-based literacy program Guys Read, whose mission is "to help boys become self-motivated, lifelong readers." He was named the very first U.S. National Ambassador for Young People's Literature by the Library of Congress for 2008-2009. He lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with his wife Jerilyn Hansen, an interior designer.
