Biographical Sketch

Barbara Knutson was born in South Africa in 1959, the daughter of American missionaries. She moved with her family to the United States at age twelve, eventually attending St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota and earning degrees in Art Education and French. Knutsonā€™s animal stories were influence by the folktales she heard as a child in Africa, as well as those she heard during later trips to Nigeria, Tanzania, Bolivia, and Peru. Her books have earned several awards, including two Minnesota Book Awards. She died in May 2005.
