Biographical Sketch

Richard Bennett was born in Ireland in 1899. He came to this country in 1903. Later in his life he visited family in Ireland frequently and the material he gathered there became the basis for his children's books. He attended the University of Washington, Seattle, and Columbia University. He was an art teacher for 12 years, before choosing to work full time as a children's book author and illustrator in 1934.
