Biographical / Historical
Ellen Wittlinger was born October 21, 1948 in Belleville, Illinois and attended Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. She completed her Masters of Fine Arts at the University of Iowa. In 1979 her poetry book, Breakers, was published, but it wasn't until afater she had children and worked as a children's librarian that she aimed to write for young adults. Her first novel, Lombardo's Law, was published in 1993. Her 2000 publication, Hard Love, was a Printz Honor book and also won a Lambda Literary Award. Wittlinger lives in western Massachusetts; her personal website can be found at www.ellenwittlinger.com.
