Biographical Sketch

Bettina (Bauer) Ehrlich was born in Vienna, Austria, on March 19, 1903. Her mother painted and was an art lover. Her father, who was director of an Austrian coal mining company, concocted exciting stories to tell Bettina and her sister. Her own urge to invent stories and illustrate them began at the early age of five. In 1930 she married Georg Ehrlich, an artist and sculptor. They lived in England where she wrote and illustrated her first story for children in the early 1940s. Ten of her books have been published in more than one country. She died in 1985.
