Biographical / Historical

Gordon Parks was born November 30, 1912 in Fort Scott, KS. He attended high schools in Minneapolis, MN. Parks was a published poet, filmmaker, novelist, composer, and photojournalist. His autobiographical film, The Learning Treeand his photographs in Lifeand Voguehelp "chronicle the mid-twentieth-century development of African-American consciousness." He died in 2006.
