Biographical Sketch

Gordon Parks was born November 30, 1912 in Fort Scott, KS. He attended high schools in Minneapolis, MN. His career pursuits include photographer, writer, film director, songwriter, and composer. In 1937, he started to focus on his photography. Mr. Parks is a published poet, filmmaker, novelist, composer, and photojournalist. His autobiographical novel, The Learning Treeand his photographs in Lifeand Voguehelp chronicle the mid-twentieth-century development of African-American consciousness.
