Biographical Note
Debra Frasier was born, April 3, 1953, in Vero Beach, Florida. Growing up overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Frasier spent most of her childhood at the beach collecting treasures and creating pieces of art out of them. Utilizing this passion for art, Frasier graduated from Florida State University in 1976, with a degree in design, and then went on to attend Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina where she created large costume puppets. In 1984, she married and moved to Minneapolis, where she began her writing career. During the birth of her first and only child, Frasier wrote "On the Day You Were Born." And after its success, she continued by writing "Out of the Ocean", "Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster", "The Incredible Water Show", "A Birthday Dake is no Ordinary Cake", "SPIKE, Ugliest dog in the Universe", and "A Fabulour Fair Alphabet." Frasier also illustrated multiple picture books including William Stafford's "The Animal that Drank Up Sound", Kim R. Stafford's "We Got Here Together", and Richard Lewis' "In the Space of the Sky." Outside of her work, Frasier is very active in the education of reading, writing, and the arts among children and continues to do so through her pieces and in the community, to this day.
