Biographical / Historical
Gary D. Schmidt was born April 14, 1957 in Hicksville, NY. He received a BA in English from Gordon College in 1979, an MA in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1981, and a PhD in Medieval Literature in 1985. He currently teaches at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. His children's and young adult fiction have received numerous awards, including two Newbery Honors.
