Scope and Content Note
This collection holds materials relating to the life of Lorenz Smythe Norton. Smythe Norton, a former US Armed Services member, founded his own Public Relations firm, Lorenz Smythe Norton and Associations focusing on public history and African American culture. A large of the objects represented here pertain to the hsitory of Black History Month commemorations, particularly in the Twin Cities area. There is a large selection of photography and press material representing exhibitions and events curated by Smythe Norton. Along with these objects are copies of materials and mock-ups used in Smythe Norton's curatorial process as well as newspapers and clippings relating to African-American life in Minnesota. There is also sampling of personal and profressional correpondences relating to his life and work.
