Central Representation of Ukrainian Emigrants in Germany (CRUEG) records
Abstract
The Representation is a civic institution in the Federal Republic of Germany, elected at the first convention of Ukrainian immigrants in Germany and Austria in 1945. Its purpose then was to represent and intercede on behalf of Ukrainians with the occupying powers, and later with the German government, and to cooperate with foreign charitable organizations, both Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian. The organization represented all Ukrainians and until 1950 was based in Augsburg. In 1953 it moved to Munich and it presently unites a series of cultural and community institutions with 91 branches throughout Germany. Records include petitions requesting admittance to the United States. Organizations represented in the collection include the Central Ukrainian Relief Bureau (London, England), the International Refugee Organization (IRO), the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee, the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, the Ukrainian Canadian Committee, the Ukrainian Free Academy of Arts and Sciences in the U.S.A., the International Committee of the Red Cross (Geneva, Switzerland), and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of U.S.A. Also included is correspondence of officers of the organization, including M. Dorozhynsky, A. Melnyk, and Z. Pelensky.

HISTORICAL SKETCH
The Central Representation of Ukrainian Emigration in Germany (Tsentalne Predstavnytstvo Ukrainskoi Emigratsii v Nimechchyni) is a civic institution in the Federal Republic of Germany, elected at the first convention of Ukrainian immigrants in Germany and Austria in 1945. Its purposewas to represent and intercede on behalf of Ukrainians with the occupying powers and later with the German government, and to cooperate with foreign charitable organizations, both Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian. At first, the organization represented all Ukrainians and until 1950 was based in Augsburg; it then moved to Munich. The occupation forces did not recognize the Representation, execept in the British and French zones, but its existence was tolerated. Since completion of resettlement, there have been nine general sessions and six general conventions of Ukrainians in West Germany.
