HISTORICAL SKETCH

Hanna Cherin was born April 29, 1924 in Ukraine. She is a poet and prose writer who has lived in the United States since 1949. Cherin is the author of collections of poetry, of the novel in verse, and of stories forchildren. Several of her poems have been set to music. Cherin was also a longtime librarian at the University of Chicago in the Slavonic division, where she went by her real name, Halyna Pankiw.
