Abstract

Safira (Oksanen) Kallio was born in Finland on April 12, 1894 and emigrated to the United States in 1913. She served as a local correspondent from Owen, Wisconsin for the Finnish American newspaper "Minnesotan Uutiset" (later, "Amerikan Uutiset"). Much of her poetry was published in the newspaper.

HISTORICAL SKETCH

Papers of Safira (Oksanen) Kallio consist of handwritten manuscripts of her poems. Included is a photocopy of a translated memoir called "Memories of My Trip to This Country in October and November 1913 (And a Bit After Arrival)."
