Abstract

Papers ( 1973-1986) of Stepan Kikta (1918- ) consist of programs, flyers, and miscellany on Ukrainian community activities in Cleveland, Ohio, as well as reports of the Ukrainian Museum-Archives, Inc., and the financial reports of the Self-Reliance Credit Union, Inc. (Cleveland).

HISTORICAL SKETCH

A philatelist and community activist, Stepan Kikta (or Oles Cherko) (1918- ) was born in Ukraine and graduated from the gymnasium in Jaroslav in 1936. From 1936-1939, he was a correspondent for Novyi Chas and Batkivshchyna, and later was assistant director of Union of Ukrainian Co-operatives. He came to the United States following World War II and has been active in numerous Ukrainian American organizations. He has also published extensively on philately, and owns a large collection of Ukrainian postage stamps. Kikta lives in Brooklyn, Ohio.
