Abstract

Records (1945-1960) of the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee consist of correspondence, requests for assistance, applications, financial records, photographs, resettlement records, and other materials documenting the work of the Committee. Correspondents include V. Blavatskyi, and numerous letters from Ukrainians. Also included are financial letters, nominal rolls, approved assurances, Ukrainian newspaper articles, individual assurances from Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Rhode Island; materials pertaining to the Ukrainian Museum and Ukrainian Congress Committee of America; the Mennonite Central Committee, Dept. of Health, Education, and Welfare; and other relief organizations; materials from work in Germany, Belgium, Austria, France, London, Paraguay, Switzerland, and Yugoslavia; and other records, correpsondence, financial documents, and publications.

HISTORICAL SKETCH

Founded in 1944 by concerned Ukrainian groups, the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee sought to aid displaced Ukrainians, political refugees, and other war victims. The Committee was based in the United States and had representatives in various European countries. It was affiliated with the Ukrainian Congress Committee.
