HISTORICAL SKETCH
Estonian School Fund was founded in 1971 in New York. Membership was open to all Estonians whose child attended an Estonian school in the U.S. The objectives of the Fund were: to promote the understanding and knowledge of Estonian language, literature, music, folklore, folk dances and art by lectures, courses and otherwise; to give financial assistance to children to learn the Estonian language and arts; to extend voluntary financial aid to such persons and organizations that were engaged in furthering the purpose named above; to extend financial assistance for publication of Estonian oriented teaching equipment; to grant fellowships to students to study Estonian language and arts; to grant financial assistance to organizations or individuals who provided courses, lectures, etc., for the study of Estonian language and arts.

PROVENANCE
Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC in March 2010. Margit Laanemets and Kristel Tammik of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.
