Abstract

Collection consists of records from different institutions: Estonian congregation in Los Angeles (correspondence, congregation's bulletins "Vastutuuli" and "Koguduse Teated", booklets of church services), Estonian St. Peter's congregation in Los Angeles (bulletins), Estonian Ap. Orthodox Church in Los Angeles (congregation's bulletin "Jumala Abiga", youth bulletin "Noorte Leht"), Estonian Ev. Lutheran Congregation in San Francisco (booklets, bulletins) and various records (correspondence, invitations to social events, information sheets) mostly from the Estonian House in Los Angeles and Los Angeles Estonian Society.

HISTORICAL SKETCH

EELK (Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church) Los Angeles Congregation was formed in 1950 by the initiative of Rein Neggo who also served as a pastor in 1966-1994. Oskar Pastik was elected as the first pastor and he served the congregation until 1955. The church had several guest pastors in late nineties until Jüri Pallo was appointed pastor in 2000. Heino Nurmberg headed the Church Council the same year.

PROVENANCE

Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), the BaltherNet non-profit network, and the IHRC Archives in May 2014. Birgit Nurme and Pille Aguraiuja of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.
