HISTORICAL SKETCH
EELK (Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church) New York St. Paul Congregation was formed on the 17th of November, 1949 by the Reverend Aleksander Hinno. First Church Council consisted of Valter Brunberg, Meta Ebrus, Johanna Franz-Kase, Heino Kalda, Eduard Lemming, Voldemar Metsik, Kaarel Robert Pusta, Boris Rea, Leonhard Vahter. First services were held in Advent Lutheran Church in Manhattan, then in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Grace Baptist Church and finally Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church. In just a few years the congregation gained more than 1000 members though that number is decreasing. Valdeko Kangro served as the resident pastor after Aleksander Hinno, succeeded by Valter Koppermann and Thomas Vaga while Endel ReinpƵld headed the Church Council. New York Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church has two district deaneries: Schenectady-Albany and Syracuse.
