HISTORICAL SKETCH

EELK (Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church) San Francisco Congregation was founded in 1950 when reverend Karl Lipping arrived in San Francisco with his family. Karl Lipping served as the resident pastor and was also the member of the Church Council. After his death in 1985 the congregation had several pastors (Paul Maidre, Endel Ulp and others) who only served for a short time before pastor Hendrik Laur took over in the late 1990s. In 2014, members of the council include Peeter Grüner, Lia Grüner, Ilse E. Grüner, Tiiu Johnson and Heino Valvur as the president. Services have been held in the Hope Lutheran Church in San Mateo since the 1980s.
