HISTORICAL SKETCH

EELK (Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church) Seabrook Congregation was founded in 1949. Mihkel Soovik was elected as the first parson, succeeded by Karl Kiisk in 1962, Juhan Suurkivi in 1965, Hans Rebane in 1966, Philip Tammaru in 1973 and Endel Ulp in 1998. Pastor Heino Nurk was appointed in 2001 and most recently, reverend Thomas Vaga and his son Markus Vaga in 2006. Endel Miido was the president of the Church Council in 1958-1980, followed by Harald Virunurm in 1986-2005 and later his son Harry Virunurm.

PROVENANCE

Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), the BaltherNet non-profit network, and the IHRC Archives in May 2014. Birgit Nurme and Pille Aguraiuja of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.
