Marija Skutans Netz papers
Manuscript materials pertaining to the Latvian American community in Minneapolis, Minnesota, particularly the artistic community and events related to the Republic of Latvia’s independence in 1991.
The papers include numerous photographs and playbills of Minnesota Latvian theater productions through the 1950s to the 1970s. In addition, the collection also documents Latvia’s independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and Netz’s involvement with the 1993 Republic of Latvia national election. Social and religious events within the Minnesota Latvian community are also documented with photographs. Miscellaneous materials provide information on traditional Latvian folk instruments and fabrics.

Marija Skutans Netz graduated from the University of Minnesota. After receiving her master's degree, she worked as an art teacher, art consultant, painting instructor at the University of Minnesota, gallery director, and art workshop leader for art centers and colleges.
