HISTORICAL SKETCH

Born March 20, 1937 in Tallinn, Estonia.1944 emigrated to Germany with his family. Went to Estonian elementary school in Ulm, Germany. 1949 emigrated to Seabrook, USA, where he graduated from Bridgeton high school in 1954. Immediately after graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he spent three years in England. In 1957 he started studying architecture in University of Illinois, receiving a B.A. degree in 1963. In 1965 received his M.A degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where he had been studying under the world-famous architect Louis Kahn. After that, Reinvald went to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y, where he worked as an assistant professor and later as professor. He also had his own architect bureau, Reinvald-Griffing Architects. 1972-1978 Reinvald was the head of the architecture department in Montana State University in Bozeman. Reinvald is a co-owner in the architecture firm Architects Reed Reivald in Tacoma.Member of the Tacoma Rotary Club.Wife:Kimberly Horn, MD Daughter: Tiia The American Institute of Architects named Reinvald as the member of College of Fellows in 1988.Member of various associations: the American Institute of Architects, Rotary Club, Public Affairs Committee of the American Institute of Architects etc.

PROVENANCE

Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC in March 2012. Gristel Ramler and Tiina Trumberg of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.
