HISTORICAL SKETCH

North American Estonian Days are considered as one of the first mass gatherings of Estonians in North America. The goal of the festivity was to preserve and develop Estonian culture and heritage in North America. The North American Estonian Days were held 4 times: 1957 in Toronto, 1960 in New York, 1964 in Toronto, 1968 in New York. The main organizer of the Estonian Days was the Organizing Committee of the Estonian Days.

PROVENANCE

Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC in March 2010. Margit Laanemets and Kristel Tammik of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.
