17.08.1874 Tarvastu, Viljandimaa, Estonia – 23.04.1954 New York, USAState official, house owner, publicist, public figure.Official at the Tartu-Võru peace core, from 1902 official at University of Tartu: official in the chancery, head of accounting and treasurer 1902-1917. 1916-1917 assisted the organizing of the opening of a new university in Perm. 1918 was invited to the organizing of the Estonian-language University of Tartu, he was in charge of the economic plans. In 1918 was elected to be the treasurer of University of Tartu, has also been the secretary, economic advisor, economic secretary, head of the economic department. 1932-1936 economic director. From 1936 retired, was a house owner in Tartu. In 1944 emigrated to Germany, in 1950 went to USA.Has been an active co-writer to many newspapers and journals since 1905. Has written choir concert reviews, memoirs, has also written belletristic stories and opinion stories about education politics. Laagus was an active member of society, belonged to many organizations. Chairman and member of Estonian Loan-Deposit Community, member of Young Estonia movement, member of House Owners Society. Was one of the founding members of the World-wide Estonian Literature Society, head of the society's Augsburg department in Germany. Was a member of Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church's St. Paul Congregation in New York.Literary alias: K.L., K. Lgs, Roolain, K.Wife: 1. Amalie Pahk 2. PROVENANCE

Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC in March 2012. Gristel Ramler and Tiina Trumberg of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.
