12.10.1911 - 02.08.1991 Chicago, USA Born in Tartu, Estonia. Until 1938 Hartmann. Wife: Adelaide Harkna (ne Menders (Mänder, Mender), 1915-1988, married in 1935); daughter: Aari Harkna (1936); son Erik Harkna (1940). Emigrated to the U.S. from Sweden via Oslo in 1945. Jacob Westholm gymnasium, Tallinn. Graduated the University of Tartu (economics), member of the fraternity Vironia. Captain, shipowner

PROVENANCE

Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC in March 2009. Gristel Ramler and Birgit Nurme of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.
