Collection consists of newspaper clippings, correspondence and pamphlets. Extensive collection of writings about and by Niklus. Correspondence with Juhan Simonson of the Estonian American National Council. Letters of support by U.S. President, senators, and congressmen. Mart Niklus graduate of Tartu Univ (biology) 1957 Human rights dissident. Jailed as a political prisoner during the Soviet regime 1958-66, 1976, 1980-88, member of Amnesty International, Estonian Wildlife Fund and also served as member of the Estonian Parliament (1992-1995)

HISTORICAL SKETCH

Mart Niklus was born on September 22, 1934 in Tartu, Estonia. Mart Niklus graduated from Tartu Univ (ornithology) in 1957. One of the most courageous human rights activists in Estonia. Jailed as a political prisoner and dissident during the Soviet regime in 1958-66, 1976, and 1980-88. Member of Amnesty International and Estonian Wildlife Fund. Elected to be member of the Estonian parliament (1992-1995). Mart Niklus syndis 22.septembril 1934 Tartus. Omandas ornitoloogi eriala Tartu ylikoolis 1957. aastal. Eesti julgemaid inim6iguste aktiviste. N6ukogude okupatsiooni ajal veetis 1958-66, 1976, 1980-88 aastad poliitvangis dissidendina. Amnesty International liige. Valitud Eesti parlamenti 1992-1995.
