HISTORICAL SKETCH
17.10.1900 - 03.03.1992 Oak Ridge, USA Born in Estonia. Diplomat. Wife: Mary Kusik (ne Jackson, married in 1928 in New York). Immigrated with his family to the U.S. in 1921. Returned to Estonia in 1940 to serve as the first secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, fled back to U.S. in 1941 during the Sovite Union invasion

PROVENANCE
Collection transferred to the IHRC from the Estonian Archives in the U.S.A. (EAU) in 2003-2005. It was processed as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC in March 2009. Gristel Ramler and Birgit Nurme of the National Archives in Tallinn, Estonia, worked with IHRC staff on the project.
