Biographical / Historical
August 29, 1894 (Tõlliste, Valga county, Estonia) – February 2, 1988 (Lakewood, NJ USA) Wife: Aino. Studied at a local parish school and an agricultural school in Helsinki, Finland. Participated in World War I and Estonian War of Independence. Worked at the Estonian Ministry of Agriculture after the war. Graduated from gymnasium in Tartu in 1926 (Tartu Õhtugümnaasium), studied forestry at the University of Tartu in 1923–1938. Member of the academic corporation Fraternitas Estica. Member of the Estonian Defense League. Evacuated to Germany in 1944, worked there as log yard manager at a DP camp Ohmstede in Oldenburg in 1945–1947. Continued his studies at the University of Göttingen (Georg August Universität Göttingen) in 1947–1949, becoming the first Estonian to receive a Dr. rer. for. degree. Emigrated to the US in 1949. Started working as a laborer, later worked as a technical draftsman (1951–1954) and as a chemist at Vitro Laboratories in New Jersey (1954–1967). Member of Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holy Spirit in Lakewood (EELK Lakewoodi Pühavaimu Kogudus), member of audit committee of the Estonian Archives in the US, secretary and member of board of Estonian Officers Association in America (Eesti Ohvitseride Kogu USAs), scientific secretary of Estonian Scientific Association in America (Eesti Teaduslik Ühing Ameerikas), member of audit committee of Lakewood Estonian Association, member of board of Estonian Veterans Association of Lakewood (Võitlejate Ühing). Founding member of the US association of academic corporation Fraternitas Estica.

Collection was processed and described as part of a collaborative project between the Estonian Archives in the USA (Lakewood, New Jersey), the National Archives of Estonia (NAE), and the IHRC Archives in September 2016.
