SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION

The Harold L. Cook collection includes floor plans, funding proposals, program proposals, certificates of occupancy, and analyses of building needs for YMCA of Greater New York branches that include Bronx, Fort Totten, Clinton Youth and Family Center, McBurney, Uptown, Vanderbilt, Sloane House, Seamen's House, Penn Station and West Side branches.

BIOGRAPHY OF HAROLD COOK

Harold L. Cook began his nearly 40-year career with the YMCA in Detroit, Michigan in 1961. He served as physical director, assistant to the executive director, and executive director at several branches of the Detroit YMCA. He moved to New York City in the early 1970s, where he was executive director of the Seamen's House branch for several years. He was later a group vice president for Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island and senior vice president for operations. He left New York in the mid-1980s to serve the Louisville, Kentucky, YMCA as executive director. He retired from YMCA service in April 1999.
