BIOGRAPHY OF GAYLE J. LATHROP

Gayle John Lathrop graduated from the College of Wooster in Ohio in 1932 and began his YMCA career in 1938, when he was appointed secretary of the Ohio area council of YMCAs. He also served on the Columbus area council, representing student YMCAs. In the early 1940s he became executive secretary at the Warren, Ohio, YMCA. He went to New York in 1943 as director of the Intercollegiate branch, a post he held until 1948. He then became executive director of the Sloane House branch, moving to city headquaters in 1955 as executive vice present, a position he held until his death in 1965.
