Historical Note

The objective of this 1969-1971 project was to design a totally new city with a population of 250,000, which would embody innovative concepts and opportunities in social, technological, economic and physical areas. The latest planning ideas in these areas could be observed and evaluated by urban studies experts from private and public sectors of academia and government. The project was a joint venture of the University of Minnesota and the Federal Government. The city was never built, although it consumed a great deal of planning time and money.
