Biographical / Historical
In 1987, Norwest Corporation opened an exhibit space designed for the public, which, until 1999, displayed rotating exhibits from their modernist art collection. The collection was devoted to seven modernist art movements: British and American Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, Wiener Werkstätte, Bauhaus, de Stijl, and Art Deco. There were also four modernist dining rooms: American Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, Wiener Werkstätte, and Art Deco.
The curator of this collection was David Ryan who worked with the collection for it’s time at Norwest, then moved with the collection when it was donated to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts after Norwest and Wells Fargo merged.
