Historical Note
James Sewell Ballet was founded in New York City by Minneapolis native James Sewell and Sally Rouse and brought to Minnesota in 1992. The James Sewell Ballet is known for consistently pushing the technical and artistic boundaries of ballet.
The troupe of eight core dancers has worked with the Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, North Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus, VocalEssence, Dale Warland Singers, Children's Theatre Company, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Minnesota Dance Theatre, and Ballet Arts Minnesota. The dancers have performed in nearly 50 Minnesota communities, 28 states, as well as internationally.
