This collection includes office files, correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, and publications relating to the Board of Directors of the Association. Most of the records were transferred from the office of the President. The materials in Box 18 are RESTRICTED until 2021.

Materials are restricted. Prior permission in writing from the President of the Minnesota Orchestral Association is required. For access, please contact the curator. The original documents do not circulate and may only be used in the Reading Room of the Manuscripts Division.

Photoreproduction and audio reproduction of any materials in which the Minnesota Orchestral Association holds copyright, shall be performed only with the written permission of the MOA except for photoreproduction of any published materials of the Association in the public domain.

Overview

Contains annual reports and materials from annual meetings, minutes from meetings of the Board and of the Executive Committee, various committee minutes and reports, and the confidential files of search committees for Music Directors.

Historical Note

The Orchestral Association of Minneapolis was established in 1907; its first president was Elbert L. Carpenter who served in that capacity until 1945. In 1956 the name was changed to the Minnesota Orchestral Association.

In 1971 the Association hired its first professional president, Donald L. Engle. At that time the title of the head of the Orchestral Association was changed to Board Chair; his/her duties were also changed at that time because the president assumed the day-to-day operation of the Association.

Acquisition

Early records were transferred to the archives in the 1970s-80s. More recent records were accessioned in 1992, 1996, and 2000.

Processing Information

The collection was processed and the finding aid written by Leslie Czechowski in 2001 and updated in 2002.
