Minnesota Orchestra Series 4: General Manager Records
Scope and Content Note
At some point files in this collection may have been reorganized, and artificial series created that were arranged by person or office. They may be from the staff’s “string files” (copies of correspondence that were circulated among the staff) or they may have been files from the offices of Engle or Cisek. Only samples of significant or illustrative correspondence were retained.
The bulk of material from the mid-1990s to the late 2000s are from the office of Robert Neu. Neu joined the staff of the Minnesota Orchestral Association in August 1995 as vice president and general manager. He had previously served as orchestra manager of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and in comparable positions with the Akron Symphony Orchestra, the Lake Forest Symphony, and Julliard. Materials include personnel records, administrative files, and programming files. They document the breadth of involvement by the general manager in many activities of the organization due to his supervision of the departments of Personnel, Education, Operations, Artistic Administration, Library, Facilities, and Events. Due to the ongoing and overlapping nature of work within the association, Neu's files also contain files from his predecessors.
This series provides an overview to the Minnesota Orchestra's activities; more detailed records may be found in the departmental records.
