Historial Note
Aina Swan Cutler (1914-2005) was an American lyricist, librettist, and translator of Finnish poetry. An American-born Finnish woman, Swan Cutler collaborated with Finnish composers as a lyricist and translator of Finnish poetry set to music. She frequently translated the poetry of Eino Leino, a Finnish writer known for modernizing Finnish folk elements in his work. Swan Cutler also frequently collaborated with composer and jazz pianist Heikki Sarmanto.
