Biographical or Historical Note

David Voss was a composer, musician, dancer and choreographer. Born in 1938, Voss studied music at the University of Minnesota and accompanied for Minnesota Dance Theatre (MDT) founder Loyce Houlton’s classes in the university’s dance program. Houlton allowed Voss to take dance classes for free, and in time, he was teaching and performing for MDT, in addition to composing and accompanying. Voss eventually received his master’s degree in Composition and continued to teach, compose and choreograph in the University of Minnesota Dance Program until his death in 1991.
