Scope and Content Note
The collection includes handwritten and printed original scores by by David Voss. The collection also contains a selection of musical scores by various composers from the dancer, choreographer, and teacher Gertrude Lippincott. Also included are Voss' notebooks, music books for guitar, class notes, flyers and notated scripts.

Biographical or Historical Note
David Voss was a composer, musician, dancer and choreographer. Born in 1938, Voss studied music at the University of Minnesota and accompanied for Minnesota Dance Theatre (MDT) founder Loyce Houlton’s classes in the university’s dance program. Houlton allowed Voss to take dance classes for free, and in time, he was teaching and performing for MDT, in addition to composing and accompanying. Voss eventually received his master’s degree in Composition and continued to teach, compose and choreograph in the University of Minnesota Dance Program until his death in 1991.

Acquisition
The collection was transferred to the Performing Arts Archives from the University of Minnesota Archives in 2013. Accruals were received in 2017.
