Minnesota Orchestra Series 12 Audio and Video Recordings

Identifier: PA012.Series 12
The audio recordings in this series include master audio tapes, other cassette/audio tapes, records, compact discs, and DAT recordings. Master audio tapes (Series 12.1) are generally 10" reel-to-reel tapes and require careful assessment. Reformatting may be required. They are from the tenures of Maestros Skrowaczewski and Marriner. 50+ of the tapes in Series 12.2 are 5" and 7" reel-to-reel tapes that also require appraisal and reformatting. They are mainly from the era of Maestro Skrowaczewski, but a few are from the 1940s and early 1950s. The records (12.3) and compact discs (12.5) are generally in good condition. Included in the Records series is a copy of the first recording made by the Orchestra in 1925 under Henri Verbrugghen that features "Waiata Poi." Many of the Orchestra's audio master tapes reside in the Library at Orchestra Hall along with other Orchestra recordings. Audio tapes of the Orchestra from broadcasts on KSJN Radio are located in the station's audio archives. There are also tapes in the KUOM Radio collection in the University Archives, University of Minnesota.

The films and videos in this series (12.4) are various formats; the videos are U-Matic, production Beta, consumer Beta, and VHS. The collection includes film footage from Orchestra broadcasts, tapes produced by the Orchestra along with the raw footage, extensive coverage of tours in the late 20th century, and examples of promotional materials and news coverage of Orchestra activities.

This series also includes a small collection of slide-tape shows (12.6) about the Minnesota Orchestra and its history used by the Development and Marketing Departments. They include images also located in Series 11. The slide-tape shows included slides (which were transferred from carousels to mylar sleeves), audiocassettes, and scripts; however each set is not complete. See also collections of slides in Series 11.5.
