Under the auspices of the Minnesota Federation of Music Clubs, Julie Gale and Mr. Evenson founded two youth orchestras in 1957, the Junior Symphony and the Youth Orchestra. Two years later these orchestras merged into the Student Symphonies of Greater Minneapolis under the baton of Mr. Evenson. He conducted the orchestra until it was reorganized as the Greater Twin Cities Youth Orchestra in 1972. He continued teaching instrumental music until his retirement in 1980.
