Historical Note
The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts’ participatory lecture and panel series, Minnesota Dance and the Ecstasies of Influences, was launched in fall of 2014. The series focuses on the artist’s influences as a way to better unstand and "unravel" the complexities that are part of the Twin Cities dance community. Each series includes several invited speakers, and ends with an open-forum format where lectures attendees can share their own stories and remembrances.
This series is curated by Michèle Steinwald for The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts, in partnership with Judith Brin Ingber, choreographer and writer; Cecily Marcus and Kathryn Hujda, Performing Arts Archives at the University of Minnesota Libraries; Nancy Mason Hauser, videographer, and Linda Shapiro, choreographer and writer. The series has included numerous guest speakers from the Twin Cities dance community.
The last season of lectures was hosted by The Ordway in Saint Paul, MN.
Each lecture has been recorded. While digital copies of recordings are preserved as part of this collection, the videos can also be watched through the Cowles Center Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/thecowlescenter/videos
