Scope and Content Note

Collection includes original scores and recordings (bulk), as well as scrapbooks, photographs, press clippings, and other family historical materials. The family historical materials document the Blitz family, including father Julien Paul Blitz and grandfather Edouard Emanuel Blitz. The sheet music includes orchestra parts and original scores from Edouard Marquis as well as Julien and Edouard Emanuel Blitz. THe collection also includes documentation of a major recital at New York's Town Hall, documented through reels, programs, ticket stubs, and publicity.

Biographical Note

Edouard Marquis Blitz was a cellist and composer in Minnesota. He performed with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, as well as the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra. Along with performing, Blitz also composed and taught private lessons. Edouard Marquis was the only son of notable musician Julien Paul Blitz, who conducted the San Franscisco Symphony Orchestra and later headed the Music Department at Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University). Edouard Marquis is also the grandson of Edouard Emanuel Blitz, who was a notable a violinst, composer, and conductor as well.
