Biographical / Historical
John Tartaglia was a violist, teacher, composer, instrument maker, and a woodworker. He was born in Gloversville New York, and studied at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome. He earned a degree in humanities from the University of Florida. Before being appointed to the Minnesota Orchestra in 1968, he performed with orchestras in Tampa, Syracuse and with the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra. He retired in 1999 from the Minnesota Orchestra and was an affiliate member of the University of Minnesota for many years. From 1981 through 1982 he taught viola at Oberlin Conservatory. Although he passed away in 2018, he is survived by a wife, son, daughter, and two grandsons.
