The collection consists of two series: correspondence and photographs. This collection shows only a small segment of the Alworth family business.
The collection consists of industrial photographs taken by the donor during the duration of his studio's operation in Virginia, Minnesota which closed in 1956. Mr. Barclay continued shooting for industrial clients through 1963.

These family papers include letters between Edward Burger and Jennie Gabie before they married, family letters, young Ethel’s letters to “Papa”, references to Burger businesses “Burger & Myer Soaps”, “Burger & Burger Fuel and Feed”; a patent by Edward called Perfect Pencil Pockets; family photographs, and portrait photographs showing the three children from infancy to adulthood. Ethel Louise Burger Carrillo (1890-1963), or her family, had kept these papers.
The collection consists primarily of black and white and color photographs by a photojournalist employed by a Duluth newspaper. The photographs are of the city of Duluth, events, people, as well as the northeast Minnesota area primarily from 1971, 1982-1990s; many are not dated and unidentified.

The collection includes two loose photographs of their local storefronts in Duluth and Superior, price cards, 1880 – 1916, and a newsletter to company employees.
The album is a nearly day-by-day visual log of new construction of a mill at the Duluth waterfront, presumably at 39th Avenue West.

The collection consists of nine photographs, two from 1916 at the Ontario Veterinary College, a portrait of Albert Rowson, and six of the Rowson Cat and Dog Hospital on Oneota, showing the building, an operating room with Dr. and Sarah Rowson working with a dog, their business sign and Dr. and Mrs. Sarah L. The collection consists of black and white photographs by Hjalmer C. Rykken amateur but experienced photographer, that were made between October 1958 and July 1962. Content of the photographs includes: streets, views of Lake Superior, Central High School, Fire Hall, the Hibbard Plant, Lakefront, the First Presbyterian Church, Elliott Packing Co., Park Point, and Rail Road tracks.
