1918 Forest Fire documents
This collection is intended to accommodate miscellaneous, primary documents related to the October 12, 13, 1918 Cloquet-Moose Lake forest fire and its aftermath when provenance or donor information about the material is unclear or not known.
Allied Printing Trades Council records
The collection contains miscellaneous correspondence and mailings from other Printing Trades 1918-1928, and one volume of Council minutes, May 1937 to April 1944.
Architectural drawings collection
The collection contains architects' drawings and specifications for buildings. Almost all the plans are for structures in northeastern Minnesota, with some plans by local architects for buildings in other areas.
Baldwin Flats photographs
The Baldwin Flats are located at 711 – 715 West Second Street, Duluth, Minnesota, built in 1891 – 92. The thirteen prints comprising this collection were copied from a photograph album loaned to the St. Louis County Historical Society, the copy prints and negatives were then transferred to the NEMHC. The prints show the exterior and interior of the building.
Duluth Living Wage Coalition records
The collection includes Erik Peterson’s committee meeting notes of Duluth and St. Louis County, case statements, meeting rosters, meeting notices, agendas, minutes, publicity materials, relevant publications by Good Jobs First and Smart Growth, support documents, newspaper articles about this local and other states’ living wage campaigns. There are also files on living wage issues as they relate to child care costs and wages.
Duluth Photographers' Studios photograph collection
The collection consists of 21 photographs from Duluth photographers' studios.
Duluth Planning and Development Department news clippings and photographs
The collection consists of news clipping files pertaining to various city problems and concerns. These files were compiled by the Duluth, Minnesota Planning and Development Department.
Family Life and Children research resources collection
The materials comprising this collection are secondary resources Dr. Carlson gathered over time to support her research, including the publication A Childhood in Minnesota : Exploring the Lives of Ojibwe and Immigrant Families, 1880s-1920s.
General Postcard collection
All postcards donated to the archives are added to this collection. The cards are arranged by the subjects used in the general historical photograph collection; the subjects are filed alphabetically.
General Poster collection
The collection contains posters for events, publications, and organizations from Duluth and northeastern Minnesota.
George A. Newton photographs
The collection consists of cabinet cards and unmounted, primarily, albumen prints stamped with Newton's name or his advertisement. It is assumed he made the photographs.
Clara A. Helwig papers
The collection includes ten personal letters, seven letters of recommendation, and one letter from the Duluth Humane Society concerning Helwig's handling of truant and delinquent children. Document types include originals, photocopies, and typed transcriptions.
Lakeshore Bypass Committee records
The collection consists of a small quantity of notes, research materials, incorporation papers, financial records, legal briefs, correspondence, and newspaper clippings.
Arlene Lehto papers
The collection contains documents from the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission, the Great Lakes Basin Commission, and the Save Lake Superior Association. Also included are Lehto’s legislative papers, subject files, and publications.
Charles E. Lovett papers
The collection contains diaries, news clippings, photographs, and reference materials.
National Organization for Women (Minnesota) records
The collection contains minutes, annual/chapter reports, membership list, correspondence, news releases, by-laws, legislative platforms, resolutions, committee proposals and minutes, state conference information, bus trips to the capitol, photographs, information from related organizations, miscellaneous, newspaper clippings, and oversized posters. Materials from both the Duluth, Minnesota chapter and the statewide, Minnesota, organization are represented in the collection.
Newspapers special issues
This collection contains special issues of newspapers pertinent to local history, covering a variety of topics such as anniversary or dedicatory occasions and so forth.
Norrgard Anishinaabe Collection Waasa Inaabidaa Archives
Contains video interviews and transcripts, scenic video footage, and dramatic re-enactment video footage for production of a six-part public television documentary about the history and culture of Anishinaabe Ojibwe people titled Waasa Inaabida: We Look In All Directions that aired in 2001.
Ross family photograph albums
The collection consists of two photograph albums. The first contains family photos with some descriptive information in the first section of the album. The second contains photos of Minnesota Power and Light installations with dates and descriptions.
George B. Sargent papers
The collection contains correspondence and biographical information, 1869–1900; news clippings concerning George Sargent, 1931–1941; photographs including a portrait of Sargent and an image of his house, 1869–1965; and one scrapbook containing personal correspondence concerning Sargent's life, work, and speeches, news clippings, and some maps, 1851–1875.
St. Louis County Medical Society records
St. Louis County Sheriff's Department Jail Division records
The collection consists of one file of a few loose pages, one volume titled Prison Calendar (June 1871-April 1890) and two record series in bound volumes: Register of Prisoners and Board of Prisoners.
Steamer Winyah log book
The collection contains a ship's log book, June 1933-July 1935, noting route, time and weather conditions of 18 voyages of the Steamer Winyah, a freighter that served commercial fisherman along the north shore of Lake Superior and Isle Royale. Also included is a pamphlet of regulations of the Duluth-Superior harbor.
John Terrass photograph collection
The collection contains 32 black and white silver gelatin images.
Work People's College records
The collection consists exclusively of photographs of students, staff, and faculty of the college.
Writing for the Social Sciences course records
The collection is the product of classroom assignments by undergraduate students in the Writing for the Social Sciences courses from 1990-1993.
