Kauls Family papers
The history of the Teodors (1872-1954) and Sara (1879-1959) Kauls family, "Flight to Freedom," traces the family's odyssey from Ukraine to Michigan and Minnesota. The Kauls moved from Ukraine in 1910, to Riga in 1924, to Czechoslovakia. Following World War II, they immigrated from a displaced persons camp in Wurzburg Germany to Michigan and Minnesota. Photographs are also included. The story is told by Gloria Kauls.
Knuts and Valda Lesins papers
Papers (1924-1997) consist of personal documents, photos, correspondence. Included is sheet music by Knuts Lesins as well as by other Latvian and world composers, in addition to manuscripts, research papers, articles, short stories, speeches, poems and translations done by Lesins. Newspaper clippings, bulletins, newsletters, magazines and books are also included in this collection. There is one audio record.
Latvian Chorus Shield of Songs (Koris Dziesmu Vairogs) records
Records and papers (1945-1980) of the Latvian Chorus Shield of Songs (Koris Dziesmu Vairogs) include correspondence; minutes; history; programs; and memorabilia. The group was formed in the displaced persons camp at Groshabersdorf, Germany, in 1945. Most of the members resettled in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids, Michigan. The group continued there until it was disbanded in 1981.
