Abstract
The video interviews were conducted and recorded with the recipients of the "Immigrant of Distinction" award by the American Immigration Lawyers' Association's Minnesota/Dakotas Chapter. The narratives document the immigrant experiences of the award recipients. Included are digital files containing the video and audio recordings, also transcripts for selected oral histories. Scope and Contents
Dwight Reed was born in St. Paul Minnesota in the late 1910s. He attended the University of Minnesota and was an All-American defensive end for the Golden Gophers football team under Coach Bernie Bierman from 1935-1938. Reed was one of only two African-American players on the team at this time. During World War II Reed was a sergeant in the US Army based at Fort Knox, Kentucky, a racially integrated unit.
